FAQ's

We answer the most common questions our clients ask us

A sworn translation is an official translation of any document, stamped and certified by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.

This translation must be accompanied by a copy of the original document so that the competent authorities can compare the copy with the original document and establish that the translation has been made on the original document.
Sworn translations are legally valid before official institutions and public administrations or bodies in Spain. In order for them to be valid abroad, they generally need to be legalised.

In Spain, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation is in charge of legalising sworn translations. However, in some cases this requirement will not be necessary, but this will depend on the organisation and country where they are to be delivered.
Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 exempts the following public documents issued by a Member State of the European Union from the need to be legalised in order to be effective in Spain:
· Civil registration documents (birth, proof of life, death, marriage, matrimonial capacity, marital status, divorce, separation and annulment).

· Filiation documents, including adoption. · Documents relating to domicile, residence, nationality and CAP (criminal record certificate).

· The exemption covers both documents issued in the Member States and those issued by their Embassies and Consulates in Spain.

These documents are translated directly into Spanish by a sworn translator.
You can obtain a quote quickly and easily from our home page. All you have to do is indicate the type of document you need translated, select the language combination and upload the scanned document or, failing that, a photograph of it, and you will receive a quote immediately.

If the language combination you require does not appear on the list or the document cannot be read clearly, you will receive the quote by e-mail within one hour.

You can also send it by email to contacto@eurotranslations.com or by whatsapp to +34 652 364 491.
No, a scanned document (preferably) or a good quality photo of the document is sufficient for a quotation and translation.
The method of presentation of the sworn translation will depend on the body to which the translation is to be submitted. If the COVID-19 pandemic has had any positive effect, it has been the digitalisation of many administrations.

Most administrative procedures can now be done online, so digitally signed translations are accepted by many agencies.

However, if you are not sure that you can only submit the digital version, we recommend that you request that the hard copy be sent by registered post (if it is not urgent) or by an express courier service.
Current regulations do not establish any rules regarding the format in which a sworn translation must be submitted; however, we will try to keep the format similar to the original. On the other hand, if you request a hard copy, the sworn translation will be sent with a copy of the original attached at the end.
You can request modifications or make queries about the translation via our email and the chat on the website.
Of course you can. On the one hand, you can request a hard copy translation of any sworn translation we have done for you up to 60 days after delivery in digital format.

On the other hand, if you have already requested the delivery of the translation in paper format and you need another copy, you can contact us by e-mail and we will inform you of the cost.
Payment will be made when the quote is confirmed on the website. Payment can be made by credit card or bank transfer.
The deadline for delivery of the translation is specified when you request the quote. Once the translation is ready, you will receive an e-mail notification and you will be able to download the PDF version free of charge.

If you have also requested that the translation be sent in hard copy, you will receive it at the specified address within a period of time that depends on the delivery method selected.
If you have to present a public document in a country other than its place of issue, you must legalise the original document in order for it to be valid; this requirement is prior to requesting a sworn translation.

If both countries are signatories to the Hague Convention, legalisation by means of the Hague Apostille will suffice. If this is not the case, diplomatic or consular legalisation is required.

In this way, the apostille is not an additional document, but a seal that legitimises the content of the apostilled document and must therefore be included in the sworn translation in order to guarantee its validity in another country.
A notary may only stamp and sign a sworn translation if he/she has been appointed as a sworn translator-interpreter by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for the corresponding language combination.
As a general rule, public authorities require sworn translations, although this is not always the case. It is advisable to confirm in advance that this is a requirement, as a simple translation is sometimes sufficient.
Interpreting is a form of oral translation. It may be required at official events, in negotiations and in meetings, among other situations.
There are several variants, although the most common are the following: Consecutive interpreting:

the interpreter takes notes during a speaker's speech and then reproduces his or her speech in the target language. This can be used at formal events, but also at meetings.

Simultaneous interpreting: the interpreter works in a booth and interprets the speeches in real time; those attending the event use headphones to listen to the interpretation in their own language.

Chuchotage or whispered interpreting: this is a type of interpreting that falls into the category of simultaneous interpreting. In whispered interpreting, the interpreter whispers in the ear of the participant (or a limited number of participants, usually no more than two or three) what the speaker has said in real time.

Liaison interpreting: in this type of interpreting, material is usually dispensed with; although some interpreters use a notepad, this is not a widespread choice. In this type of interpreting, which is used between two people or two small groups of people, the interpreter switches back and forth between the two languages. It is therefore one of the most dynamic options.
The quote is calculated according to the type of translation, the language combination, the number of words in the original document and the deadline required.
It is possible to request urgent translations, but the final deadline will depend to a large extent on the volume of words to be translated. The degree of urgency will be directly proportional to the cost of the translation order.
